My friend, Jodi, posted a challenge on her blog the week of the inauguration. Her challenge was to post something positive every Friday: something we have personally done to make America a better place. You can read about it here: http://livinglifewithchemobrain.blogspot.com/2009/01/why-im-excited.html.
I didn’t do it last week because, well, I forgot.
I didn’t do it yesterday because, well, I went to bed early.
Well, hey, I have things to do. Important stuff. Like clean the bathroom.
Truth is, I don’t know if I have done anything important enough to blog about. I’m trying to think if I did anything at all to help someone else out. All that comes to mind is my grocery shopping. Last week, I was looking for tuna that was on sale and I had to wait for these two white-haired ladies to push their carts on up the aisle. Of course, the tuna is on the lowest level, so I had to get down on my knees (and my knees hate that) to get the cans. And about that time, I realize the two white-haired ladies are looking for the tuna, too.
So I handed them the cans of tuna that were on sale (four each) before I got my own tuna. They thought I was the nicest person and they thanked me profusely, but the truth was: I was already down on my knees.
And today when I went to get groceries, I was distracted. The person who parked on the driver’s side of the car was parked too close for me to open the door and unload my groceries from the cart. There was noone parked on the other side but just as I went to open the door, some guy wanted that parking space. So I backed the cart out of the parking space and let him pull in and park while I waited (impatiently) to put the groceries away. When he got out of his car and saw me still standing there, he said, “Oh. You wanted to put your groceries in the side door…”
And instead of being rude or tired or… I smiled and said, “Yes. I could put them in the BACK of the SUV, but my husband has too much JUNK there.”
Which made the guy laugh. “I just cannot imagine,” he said, shaking his head and chuckling as he walked away.
Wow. I’m such a saint. But I guess I did make two little old ladies happy and I made some guy laugh (probably because his wife thinks the same thing of him).
By the way: my husband really does have too much junk in the back of his SUV. I have more room in my little truck.

You are such a gifted writer! I love reading your blog even if you think you are not writing about important things. It makes me smile and that’s pretty important in my book.
thanks Krystal! My goal in life is to be a gifted writer.
I appreciate your blog, too.:) YOU are a gifted writer.
See, it doesn’t have to cost money or be anything big. Just passing on a smile when you really want to kick someone’s arse is a good thing to do! Any helping old people, well, they always seem to appreciate the smalles of things.
Good for you!
Why do they put tuna on the bottom shelf, anyway?
I think those little “acts” can add up and it all makes this world a little more pleasant. Hope you have some more opportunity this week.
Does NOT running over the little dweeb that cut me off count?
Sent that too soon. I was thinking it would count because I “saved” him for another day……..
